Craig Gordon 8
Top save from the Hearts No.1 inside the first-ten. Stopped a certain goal moments later with a tremendous double save. We all know how good he is by now. Could do nothing about their eventual goals.
Andy Robertson 6
Caught sleeping for Ukraine’s big chance early in the match, should have come across sooner to try block cross. Got forward at will once Scotland got a goal back.
Scott McTominay 4
Ukraine had joy down the right, with their wing-back and midfield able to one-two their way into the box far too many times. Couldn’t handle Yarmechuk at back stick as he headed home to make it 2-0.
Grant Hanley 5
Made a couple of slips early on which almost proved costly. Played Yarmolenko onside for the opener, which did prove costly. Whole defence culpable of being caught out with a straight long-ball, though.
John McGinn 5
Always Mr. Dependable when it comes to the international scene. He looked jaded after a long season. He wasn’t the only one, to be fair. Just wasn’t as influential as he usually is. Missed an absolute sitter.
Callum McGregor 7
Involved in some neat interplay with Robertson and Adams down left side. Nearly forced keeper into error as he pressed with intensity. Scored to get Scotland back into it and then made a goal-saving challenge on No.11.
Lyndon Dykes 4
Put himself about. Lack of pressing allowed Malinovskyi to clip simple long-ball to make it 1-0. Booked. Subbed at half-time as part of tactical change.
Che Adams 5
Had chance to let Robbo away on a dangerous counter but played a short pass. Also guilty for relaxed press at their first goal. Forced Ukraine goalie into decent save late on.
Billy Gilmour 5
Caught with a terrible challenge from behind early, Ukraine’s No.9 lucky to escape a red card. Match sharpness not quite there with some poor misplaced passes, which is unlike him.
Liam Cooper 5
Tried desperately to get back to challenge Yarmolenko, but it was too late as he lobbed Gordon. Made some decent meaty tackles to enthuse the crowd.
Aaron Hickey 4
Lack of relationship with McTominay on show at times with Ukraine success down their side. Along with the Manchester United player, he was nowhere near winning a header to clear for their second. Don’t like to be too critical of a young player, but he endured a difficult night. Sure he’ll learn from the experience.
Subs:
Ryan Christie (for Dykes, 46’) 5
Had decent chance to get one back, but the flag was up for offside. Injected some pace up top
Jack Hendry (for Cooper, 66’) 3
On for pace and ball carrying attributes.
Stuart Armstrong (for Gilmour, 66’) 3
Dragged shot on edge of box as keeper was able to comfortably gather.
