Scotland player ratings following confident draw against Switzerland

Scotland were held to a 1-1 draw against Switzerland on Wednesday evening in Cologne.

Steve Clarke's side entered their second Group A Euro 2024 encounter following a 5-1 humbling at the hands of Germany, however started the match with far more energy than last week's opener.

After opening the scoring via Scott McTominay inside the first quarter-hour – a goal that was initially given as an own goal, but later attributed to Scotland's no.4 – Switzerland pulled level on 26 minutes.

Half-chances fell to both sides from thereon, but all told a share of the spoils was likely a fair reflection of the match all told. Here are how the Scotland players fared over 90+ minutes.

Angus Gunn 8 Didn't have an inordinate amount to do over the course, but a standout first half save kept the scoreline tied. Could do nothing for the goal.

Kieran Tierney 6 One loose pass in the first half, but otherwise solid and energetic. Appeared to land awkwardly and was stretched off with 60 minutes on the clock.

Grant Hanley 7 A straightforward performance from the central defender ultimately stepping in for the suspended Ryan Porteous. Kept on his toes at the back, and hit the post with a late header at the opposite end.

Jack Hendry 6 Occasionally shaky but settled into the game as it wore on. Wasn't tested too much, but held his own especially in the second-half.

Andy Robertson 8 Involved in just about everything Scotland did at both ends of the pitch in the opening stretch, and carried that on throughout the match. Unlucky not to force something with a wicked cross-meets-cut-back from the left in the closing 10 minutes.

Callum McGregor 7 Ran his heart out and communicated well with everyone around him. A point to prove? Perhaps, but either way a composed and confident display from the midfielder who looked back to his settled self.

Billy Gilmour 7 So confident on the ball and ate up space in the final third at every opportunity. Didn't waste a pass and always comfortable in possession.

Anthony Ralston 6 A typically no-frills performance from the full-back. Made the error that led to Switzerland's equaliser at 1-1, but was otherwise solid.

Scott McTominay 8 The liveliest player on the pitch in the opening quarter-hour got his reward when he forced the opener. Great in the air and strong when holding up play. Scotland's best player.

John McGinn 7 All over the pitch and made his presence felt in wide areas and down the inside-left channel. Snapped at the heels of his opponents from start to finish.

Che Adams 6 Struggled to create at the top end of the pitch, but equally didn't receive much in the way of service.

SUBSTITUTES Scott McKenna On for the injured Tierney just over the hour mark. Faultless during his 30 minutes on the pitch.

Kenny McLean Swapped places with Billy Gilmour with 10 minutes to go. Played a supporting role, but little time to affect the game.

Ryan Christie Brought on with seconds of normal time remaining for Ryan McGinn.

Lawrence Shankland Like Christie, introduced at the beginning of stoppage time for Che Adams.
