Fearful Georgia beg for Scotland call off amid two pitch inspections in bonkers Hampden night

Fearful Georgia attempted to call off their crunch Euro 2024 clash with Scotland as the raging visitors claimed foul after two failed pitch inspections.

But the Group A clash IS back under way in Mount Florida after an incredible 100-minute delay following torrential ran that clearly subsided. Callum McGregor had Scotland ahead but play was suspended after just eight minutes. UEFA rules stated the remainder of the game has to be finished the following day with St Mirren's stadium poised to be the next port of call but Hampden came good after epic work from dedicated ground staff. Referee Istan Vad called a quick pre-match inspection but was forced into an executive call after McGregor scored the opener.

The game started in comical fashion with large puddles wreaking havoc for players on the pitch. At 20.45, the players came back out to warm up but it became clear Georgia were seeking a postponement. The visitors were drenched in boos amid their hijinks. They finally emerged just before 9:30 after seemingly locking themselves in the dressing room. The crowd was angry. The country was angry.

Viaplay punit Michael Stewart said: "The Scotland players will be angry. They will use their behaviour as motivation."

Steve Clarke's national heroes have a country believing but the elements proved a bigger hindrance than any of our Group A rivals have so far amid a perfect start in qualifying to reach the showpiece tournament in Germany. Punters were soaking up the atmosphere before the game but were drenched en route to the national stadium as it became clear the testing conditions would be factor on a night punters could see the lighter side of events with a stirring rendition of Travis' classic 'Why Does It Always Rain On Me?"
