Scotland fog warning issued as flights could face 'delays or cancellations'

Amid already freezing and snowy conditions, Scots are being told fog could delay or cancel flights as a Met Office yellow warning is set in place.

Dumfries and Galloway will be placed under the weather warning from 4pm on Sunday, until 11am the following Monday December 12. Those in the area can expect slower journey times with delays to bus and train services possible.

However, it may also impact Scots elsewhere as well, as the warning states: "There is a chance of delays or cancellations to flights."

The Met Office states: "Freezing fog is expected to become more extensive overnight and could produce significantly reduced visibility to 50-100 metres at times, as well as patchy ice on untreated surfaces.

"Additionally, snowfall that is now easing near and over the Cotswolds, as well as isolated showers elsewhere may lead to some ice developing on untreated surfaces."

The fog is expected to become less widespread and thick by lunchtime on Monday, however drivers and pedestrians should still be aware of slippery ice.

The warning is for both Freezing fog and patches of ice, with the Met Office stating the ice could cause injuries from slips and falls as well as slippery roads.

This comes as the Met Office have extended their snow warning until Thursday, December 15, which will cover many parts of Scotland, potentially impacting roads and public transport.
