Scotland fans minute's applause for the Queen met with boos ahead of Ukraine clash

A minute's applause in memory of The Queen was met with some booing at Hampden on Wednesday night.

The SFA announced the planned tribute ahead of Scotland 's Nations League showdown with Ukraine at the national stadium. Pre-match an electronic message on the Hampden big screen asked supporters to join in with the tribute.

But there were audible jeers mixed in with predominant applause ringing around the stadium when the tribute got under way moments before kick-off. The late monarch - who was a patron of the SFA - was laid to rest with a funeral held at Westminster Abbey in London on Monday and her passing was marked with a series of tributes across UK football matches over the weekend. A number of the tributes were met with opposition, with Dundee United fans booing and singing a vile chant during a minute's silence at Ibrox while Celtic fans held up a banner reading "if you hate the Royal Family clap your hands" amid an applause before their Premiership clash with St Mirren on Sunday.
