Scotland defender Scott McKenna endured another difficult night as he was sent off in the 29th minute of Las Palmas’ 1-1 draw with Real Valladolid in La Liga on Friday.
The 28-year-old centre-back, who joined the Canary Island club on a free transfer from Nottingham Forest last summer, had initially made a strong start to life in Spain.
However, his form has dipped since the turn of the year, with a string of error-prone displays featuring yellow cards and costly mistakes.
His latest setback came in the first half against Valladolid, where a rash decision to halt a counter-attack saw him dismissed, leaving Las Palmas with ten men for over an hour.

Las Palmas currently sit 16th in the table, just above the relegation zone, and McKenna’s form will be a concern for both his club and country.
With Scotland’s crucial UEFA Nations League play-off against Greece just around the corner, national team boss Steve Clarke faces a big selection choice on whether to include the former Aberdeen defender in his squad.
McKenna has been a regular under Clarke, featuring in all three matches at Euro 2024, but his recent struggles raise questions about his place in the team as Scotland look to retain their spot in the Nations League’s top-tier.
