SCOTLAND could witness the first snow of the season, the Met Office has said.
Northern and rural areas of Scotland could experience minus 4C temperatures and snow overnight on Friday into the weekend as a cool weather system moves in.
The rest of the UK will experience “markedly cooler” weather through the weekend and into next week compared to the week before.
Stephen Dixon, a Met Office spokesperson, told the PA news agency: “This (cooler weather) is fairly usual for this time of year … some wintery showers, particularly in higher grounds of Scotland.
“That may be the kind of most widespread frost we’ve seen so far this season."
It comes after heavy rainfall earlier in the week caused the Met Office to issue yellow weather warnings for numerous parts of Scotland.
Perth and Kinross Council is still facing questions after a key flood defence barrier failed to be closed despite ample warning from the Met Office and the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency.
Next week temperatures are forecasted to be “more settled” for most of the UK.
