Scotland boss Clarke to call-up 'one or two' after Patterson & Turnbull injuries

Scotland boss Clarke to call-up 'one or two' after Patterson & Turnbull injuries

STEVE CLARKE has revealed he could add two faces to his Scotland squad for Saturday's Nations League clash against Ireland.

The national team boss confirmed David Turnbull had suffered an ankle knock and won't feature during the international break so has returned to Celtic.

Clarke also suggested he could add to his squad after Nathan Patterson was stretchered off in the early stages against Ukraine.

While coy on any timeline on the injury, it appears Patterson could be out for this weekend's match as medics diagnose the issue.

On Patterson's injury blow, Clarke said: "It  doesn't look too good when they go off on a stretcher.

"He obviously felt something on his leg.

"We'll wait and see what the medics say and how it pans out, hopefully not too serious and not out too long."

And confirming discussions will be held over further call-ups to replace Patterson and Turnbull, Clarke added:  "We'll go away and we'll have a little chat about it.

"David Turnbull pulled out the squad, he picked up an ankle knock at the weekend that we thought would clear up.

"It's not going to clear up in time for us so he's better to go back to his club and get ready for their next game.

"I'll probably need to call up at least one, maybe two players."

Clarke has already had to alter his squad for the national team camp with Jon McLaughlin, Grant Hanley and Jacob Brown all pulling out ahead of the win over Ukraine. Robby McCrorie was then called-up as a replacement and Clarke is now set to call on another couple of players before facing Ireland and Ukraine again.

On the result, Clarke said:  "I am pleased for the players, they've been suffering over the summer more than anybody."
