Scotland bank holiday Met Office verdict issued over 21C weather this weekend

Scots across the country who receive a bank holiday will no doubt want to make the most of their day off, but chilly weather might get in the way.

And while spring is here, there could still be some wintry weather this week - including some mountain snow in the run up to the long weekend and early May bank holiday.

The Met Office then says that while it could warm up later in the week, there will be spots of rainfall over the weekend in "hit and miss" conditions. Although the weather could reach 21C in the UK, Scotland is unlikely to feel the heat.

Met Office Chief Meteorologist Steve Willington said: "The cold conditions from earlier in the week will linger longest in the far north of Scotland but the rest of the UK will see the transition to warmer, but more unsettled conditions.

The expert adds: "Western Scotland and the South West will see the first rainfall, which could be heavy at times. In Scotland there is a chance of transient mountain snow as the rain band spreading from the west bumps into the colder air to the north and east."

He adds that temperatures could increase by Friday with values around 18 to 21C across parts of the UK, however Scotland is likely to have some of the lower temperatures and some grey skies.

If you have Saturday plans, you might want to consider bringing a coat as that is when showers could be at their heaviest.

Steve continues: "The coming bank holiday weekend itself will be a mixture of brighter conditions and showers. These showers will tend to be heaviest and most frequent in the west on Saturday."

"On Sunday most locations can expect to see at least some showers, whereas on the bank holiday Monday the focus for showers is more likely to be the east, with drier conditions elsewhere," The meteorologist says.

However, he adds that "temperatures will be reasonable and above average."

The May 1 bank holiday will be followed by another day off the following Monday, May 8, to celebrate King Charles III's official coronation.

The Met Office say it is still too far away to provide any great detail around the Coronation weekend, but add that they will continue to update.
