A Scottish whisky fan is taking on a unique adventure in a bid to raise money for charity.
Rob Richardson, who runs WhiskyVentures.co.uk, is planning to cycle between every operating single-malt distillery in Scotland to raise funds for Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance and Cash for Kids.
He is currently over two weeks into the ride, which will cover the over 2000 mile journey and all of the over 140 single malt distilleries in Scotland, after beginning at Bladnoch Distillery near Wigtown on May 12.
Rob, who is an outdoor instructor based in Midlothian, joked that it was probably over "a few too many beers or whiskies" that he thought it would be a good idea to go around every distillery in a oner.
He told the Daily Record : "I thought about Land’s End to John O’Groats but that’s a well-worn road, so I thought I could ride the length of Scotland.
“I realised there was a distillery almost at the bottom and at the top. There’s quite a few distilleries up the A9 – and then I realised if you go maybe just two or three miles off that you get so many more, and if you go a few miles more you get a few more.
“Eventually I came back to my original idea and decided I would just have to bike them all!”
Rob, who expects the total journey to take around 7 weeks, spoke to us from the road and stated that overall things are going really well.
He said: "My left knee is aching a little after a few tough days with strong winds and rain, but most distilleries have shown amazing hospitality and support towards my ride which helps make it all worth it.
"The donations page is slowly building and the distilleries are being very generous towards the post-ride charity auction, so all being well I hope to hit my fundraising target."
Currently, on Islay, he is hoping each one he visits will donate at least one bottle of malt to help his fundraising.
