A Scots mum is desperately raising funds for her cancer-stricken two-year-old niece after the devastating earthquake in Turkey forced her family to flee and leave the tot's vital medication behind.
Little Madina Salha is now in hospital in the earthquake-ravaged country but doctors are struggling to stabilise her condition.
Ashley Salha, 38, from Cumbernauld has set up a fundraiser to help Madina who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma in August last year.
She says that relief over finding out her family had survived the earthquake has now been replaced with concern for Madina's deteriorating health.
Ashley's husband Mehmet is originally from Turkey and the pair are close with his brother Gokhan and wife Semra who lived in Antakya, Turkey, with Madina, two, and their older children, Eylul, 11, and Cinar, 10.
Ashley explained how the family fled with just the clothes on their backs when the earthquake hit on February 6.
She said: "They started to feel shaking and within seconds everything started crumbling around them. They basically had to run for their lives. Their apartment is on the second floor but the whole place fell through.
"Gokhan and Semra grabbed the kids and managed to get them out to the balcony. It was a good few feet up at least and they had to jump for it."
"We got woken up at 5am to the news - we thought everyone was dead.
"It was horrific. We were debating booking flights. it was chaos.
"We spent the whole day in turmoil not knowing if they were alive. It was 10pm before we found out they were okay - the relief was immense."
However, without her vital medication, little Madina began running a temperature just days after her family had gotten to safety and found accommodation at a hotel in Marmaris.
Madina was rushed to hospital on February 11 and is still there more than a week later with doctors still struggling to get her temperature under control.
Ashley said: "They want to start radiotherapy but she's not well enough just now. Her lips are all blistered, she's not really eating and she's walking with a limp. Everything is just up in the air."
In a bid to help the family, Ashley has set up a GoFundMe page to help them afford some basic essentials and hospital treatment for Madina.
She said: "We're helping as much as we can. I had a few friends who wanted to donate, so I decided set up a GoFundMe page. Even if people can spare a £1 - if 100 people gave that, that's £100 right there. Any money that can go towards her treatment.
"Madina is only two, she's not lived her life yet - she deserves a chance to try and beat the cancer."
Since being diagnosed in August last year, Madina has gone through seven rounds of chemotherapy.
She went through four before doctors were able to remove most on the tumour on her bowel and beside her spine in December.
However, the tumours soon started growing back, and Medina had to undergo a further three rounds of chemotherapy in January.
She was preparing to start radiotherapy when the earthquake struck.
Ashley said: "It's devastating. It's hard enough not knowing if their child is going to make it, and now they've had everything turned upside down by the earthquake. It's unimaginable."
