The Daily Record told how a man suffered 'serious' burn injuries after the blaze that also left two pensioners injured.

The fire broke out at a property in Polbeth Terrace in Polbeth, West Calder in the early hours of February 15.

A 48-year-old man was taken to St John's Hospital in Livingston to be treated for burns.

Meanwhile, a 69-year-old and 74-year-old suffered smoke inhalation.

The 48-year-old's current medical condition and the genders of the injured OAPs were not disclosed by police.

Officers confirmed on Tuesday that a 39-year-old man had been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

A force spokesman previously told the Record: "At around 4am on Tuesday, February 15, officers were called to a report of a man with serious injuries, and a fire at a property on Polbeth Terrace, West Calder.

"Emergency services attended and a 48-year-old man was taken to St John’s Hospital to be treated for burn injuries, whilst a further two people, aged 69 and 74, were treated for smoke inhalation.

"This was an isolated incident and a 39-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection. He was expected to appear in court on Wednesday, 16 February."

Cathro made no plea during his court appearance.

He was committed for further examination and remanded in custody.

His next appearance is scheduled for Thursday, February 24.
