Perth and Brisbane have given themselves clear air between themseleves and the chasing WBBL pack, staying in the competition's top four with crucial wins.
After Sophie Devine and Beth Mooney led the Scorchers to a 10-wicket thumping of the Melbourne Renegades on Saturday, the Heat beat the Strikers in the final over by three wickets.
The results create a four-point gap between Brisbane in fourth spot and the Sydney Sixers in fifth, with five games still to play in the competition.
The Sixers still remain some outside chance of sneaking into the finals, but there is now a clear gap emerging between the top four of the Sydney Thunder, Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane and the rest.
The Scorchers' win over the Renegades on Saturday was as brutal as it was dominant.
Devine and Mooney smashed the bowling to all parts of Melbourne's Junction Oval to bring up Perth's sixth win of the season with 50 balls to spare.
New Zealand captain Devine belted eight sixes in her unbeaten 70 from 36 balls to completely flatten the Renegades.
Australian ace Mooney's 47 not out from 32 balls was relatively tame in comparison to Devine's fireworks.
Devine took a liking to Sarah Coyte, with the Renegades bowler going for 0-40 from her two overs.
The Scorchers' big hitting came after Australia spinner Georgia Wareham smashed a career-best 57 not out to help the Renegades reach 5-133.
The hosts struggled to get going after captain Hayley Matthews departed for eight from 15 balls.
The Renegades' campaign is turning into a disaster, even with international stars Matthews and Harmanpreet Kaur in their XI.
They upset reigning champions Adelaide in their second match, but have tumbled to seven-straight losses since to be on the bottom of the table with a 1-8 record.
Brisbane's victory did not come as easy in Mackay.
After they had Adelaide in trouble early at 3-31 after seven overs, Madeline Penna was able to hit the Strikers out of trouble with an unbeaten 57 from 46 balls.
Danielle Gibson also blasted 34 not out from 17 balls, helping lift the Strikers to a competitive total of 5-137.
South African Mignon du Preez then controlled the Heat's chase with 60 from 49, as she played brilliantly down the ground to the spinners.
There was a brief wobble when she was caught and bowled by Amanda-Jade Wellington and Megan Schutt (2-29) had Jess Jonassen caught shortly after.
But Englishwoman Bess Heath was able to get the hosts home with a streaky edge that went to the boundary with two balls to spare, after some nervy dot balls off Gibson in the final over.
The result snapped the Strikers' four-game winning streak, and left them one point behind the ladder-leading Thunder (13), level with Perth and two ahead of the fourth-placed Heat.
