ScoRail train catches fire near Dundee as passengers evacuated

A TRAIN carriage caught fire near a Dundee railway bridge with passengers being evacuated by emergency services.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed crews were called around 10.44am to a fire affecting a carriage on a train near Tay Bridge.

Three appliances were sent to the scene to extinguish the blaze with emergency services working to fully evacuate the train.

There are said to be no reported casualties.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 10.44am on Friday, February 28 to reports of a fire affecting a train carriage on Dundee Railway Bridge.

“Operations Control mobilised three appliances to the area to extinguish the fire and crews are assisting emergency service partners at the scene to fully evacuate the train.

“There are no reported casualties at this time.”

LNER said on Twitter/X: “Due to a fire on a train between Dundee and Arbroath some lines are blocked.

“Train services running through these stations may be cancelled or delayed.”

ScotRail said on X: “Due to an incident between Leuchars and Dundee, the line has been closed.”

Glasgow to Dundee trains are terminating and starting from Perth, while Edinburgh to Aberdeen and Dundee services are suspended.

Replacement bus services have been put in place with disruption expected to last until around 3pm, according to National Rail.
