NBA fans hoping to see a Summer League battle between No. 1 pick Victor Wembanyama and No. 3 selection Scoot Henderson will have to wait a while longer.
While the Trail Blazers are set to take on the Spurs on Sunday, Portland will reportedly be taking the court without Henderson, who will be sidelined due to an injury he sustained during his debut on Friday, according to NBA insider Chris Haynes.
Henderson suffered a shoulder injury during the Trail Blazers’ first Summer League game before exiting Friday’s game against the Rockets during the third quarter and not returning. Prior to the injury, the 19-year-old had 15 points, six assists, and five rebounds across 21 minutes.
Wembanyama also debuted on Friday, though he struggled in the Spurs’ win over the Hornets. He shot 2-of-13 from the field and scored nine points in front of a sold-out crowd in Las Vegas.
“Honestly, I didn’t really know what I was doing on the court tonight,” Wembanyama said during his post-game interview.
The 7’ 3” big man will have the chance to bounce back on Sunday, though fans in attendance won’t get to see the intriguing Wembanyama-Henderson showdown they were likely anticipating.
