Scientists Launch New Journal To Combat Medical Research Gatekeeping

A group of scientists, including President Donald Trump's nominees for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), have recently launched a new research journal called the Journal of the Academy of Public Health (JAPH). The journal aims to promote scientific discourse and address issues of censorship in the medical research community.

The editorial board of JAPH consists of scientists who have faced censorship during the COVID-19 pandemic. Co-founders of the journal include prominent figures such as Martin Kulldorff, a former Harvard Medical School professor, and Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, a professor of health policy at Stanford University and Trump's nominee for the next NIH director.

JAPH is taking a unique approach by publishing peer reviews of studies from other journals that do not make their reviews publicly available. The journal also advocates for open access, making all its content available to the public without a paywall. The editorial leadership of JAPH aims to allow scientists to publish their research in a timely and efficient manner, without facing potential gatekeeping.

The leadership team of JAPH has expressed concerns about censorship of their views on COVID-19, which often contradicted prevailing ideas in the medical community. They have highlighted issues related to vaccine efficacy, natural immunity, lockdowns, and more.

Andrew Noymer, the incoming editor-in-chief of JAPH, emphasized the journal's commitment to open peer-review and fostering new ideas without gatekeeping. He cited the lack of published scholarship on the origins of SARS-CoV-2 in the field of infectious disease epidemiology as an example of the need for a platform like JAPH to encourage innovative thinking.

The launch of the Journal of the Academy of Public Health represents a significant step towards promoting open scientific discourse and challenging established orthodoxies in the medical research community.
