Overnight snowfall meant some 15 Perthshire and Kinross-shire schools were closed on Friday 16 and two Perth secondary schools had to shut when a nearby water supply pipe burst.
Due to the wintery weather switching from a week of sub zero temperatures to warm enough for snow, school disruption came to most parts of the region, with hundreds of children mainly from primary schools in the Auchterarder, Kinross and Crieff areas having to stay home on Friday, December 16.
A yellow weather warning for snow and ice over Perth and Kinross was issued by the Met Office, lasting until 9pm Friday.
The following Perth and Kinross schools were closed due to severe weather: Aberuthven Primary School, Cleish Primary School, Comrie Primary School, The Community School of Auchterarder, Crieff Primary School, Dunning, Logiealmond, Madderty, Muthill, Portmoak and St Dominic’s Primary School in Crieff.
Fairview School in Perth was open to local pupils only.
Arrangements were made to provide pupils with online learning.
Unexpected circumstances in the form of a burst water main lead to North Inch Community Campus with St John's RC Academy and Nursery and Perth Grammar School being closed.
The broken water main in Muirton close to the North Inch Community Campus also meant the community library was closed as well.
Conditions on the A9 were nail-biting for motorists.
Those travelling between Dunblane and Perth found the going difficult.
Cameras showing Loaning Head near Auchterarder shortly after 9am showed reduced travellers with drivers following advice that only essential journeys were being made.
Gritting teams were out working to deal with the conditions.
Another Met Office yellow warning for snow was issued for Sunday, December 18 from 3am-9pm.
Perth and Kinross Council suggested residents kept their eye on the Twitter and Facebook pages.
