Schoolgirl, 14, rushed to hospital with serious injuries after being hit by bus

Police are investigating after a 14-year-old girl was rushed to hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a bus in Dorset.

The teenager was taken to hospital by air ambulance after the road accident in Lytchett Matravers, reported DorsetLive.

Officers investigating the collision are appealing for witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam footage to come forward.

Dorset Police said it received a report at 4.08pm on Monday of a collision in Wareham Road involving a bus and a pedestrian.

Emergency services attended and the 14-year-old, identified as a local teen, was taken by air ambulance to Southampton General Hospital for treatment to serious injuries.

Her family has been informed of the incident and road closures were put in place as the emergency services responded.

Sergeant Mark Scammell, of the traffic unit, said: “We are carrying out a detailed investigation to establish the full circumstances of this collision and I would urge anyone who witnessed the incident to contact us if you have not already spoken to police.

"I would also like to hear from anyone who may have captured anything of relevance on dashcam.

“I would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding while the road closures were in place. These were necessarily to allow the emergency services to respond to the incident and for an examination of the scene to be conducted.”

Dorset Police earlier tweeted: "Officers investigating a serious injury road traffic collision in Wareham Road, Lytchett Matravers, are appealing for witnesses. The collision occurred just before 4.08pm on Monday 21 March 2022."
