Schoolgirl, 11, hit by car on busy road

An 11-year-old was air lifted to hospital after being hit by a car on a busy road.

Lancashire Police arrived at Ferndale just off Birch Green Road at around 3.07pm with the North West Ambulance Service also at the scene. Police have confirmed that girl has been taken to hospital.

The girl was airlifted to Ormskirk District General Hospital where she is being treated for a head injury.

Since the news residents have been sharing their concerns for the girl on Facebook. One woman said: "Heard all the sirens and the air ambulance wondered what was going on - hope the child is ok.

Another person commented: "Sending love and support to the parents and to the poor youngster. I hope they make a speedy recovery."

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "We were called to Ferndale, Skelmersdale, at 3.07pm today to a report of a road traffic collision. An 11 year old girl pedestrian was in collision with a car. The girl was taken to hospital in Ormskirk with minor injuries."
