Schoolboy robbed by gang with 'knife' in city centre

A 15-year-old boy was robbed by a gang believed to be carrying a knife.

It was reported that around 6.30pm on Tuesday, March 21, the teenager was with friends when they were approached by a large group of males in Liverpool city centre. The group stole the victim’s mobile phone, bank card and money.

It is suspected that one offender in the group was in possession of a silver object, believed to be a knife. The offenders then made off towards Queen Square bus station. The victim did not suffer any injuries but was shaken by the incident.

Detective Inspector Chris Saidi said: “Enquiries are ongoing and we would urge anyone who witnessed the incident, or captured the incident on their mobile phone to please contact us to help identify the offenders.

“Reducing knife crime in Merseyside is a priority all year round.

“Our officers are committed in removing anyone who stores, carries and uses weapons through proactive use of stop and search powers, open land searches, warrants and education work alongside partners.

“We continue to seek out those involved in knife crime, enticing young and vulnerable people to carry weapons or involved in gangs.

“The use of knives and any weapons is reckless and will not be tolerated, and can have devastating consequences, not only for the victim and their family but also for the offenders involved.

“I would urge people to educate themselves and speak to their children and family members about the dangers of knife crime.”
