A schoolboy was robbed at knifepoint in a shocking incident on a Coatbridge street.

Police say the 13-year-old was walking along the Lanarkshire town's Bank Street when he was approached by two teenagers and robbed. The duo brandished a knife and stole his phone.

Thankfully the youngster was uninjured but left shaken by the event.

Officers have issued descriptions of the two males responsible as they launch an appeal for information.

A Police Scotland statement on Saturday afternoon advised: "Detectives in Coatbridge are appealing for information after a 13-year-old boy was robbed in the town.

"The victim was walking along Bank Street in the town at around 5pm on Friday, 28 January, 2022 when he was approached by two male teenagers and robbed. They presented a knife at him and stole his iPhone.

"He was shaken but unhurt by the incident."

Detective Constable Shemain Murphy of CID in Coatbridge said: “The victim was walking in the area known locally as the ‘basin’ when the incident happened.

“One of the boys is described as being 14 or 15-years-old, 5ft 9”, of slim build, with dark hair, wearing a black jacket and jogging bottoms.

“The second boy is described as being 15 or 16–years-old, 5ft 10”, of slim build, wearing a grey zipper hooded top, a black body warmer and white jogging bottoms.

“Anyone with information should call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2157 of 28 January, 2022.”
