School's warning as 'Uber' driver exposes himself whilst peering into Cotham homes

A Bristol secondary school has issued a warning after police received reports of a man exposing himself whilst looking into the windows of homes in Cotham. Police say a man, who appears to have been driving a car with an 'Uber' sticker on, performed indecent acts on Kensington Road, just minutes from Redland Green School where pupils often use taxis.

The man, who is described as aged 40 to 50, of south Asian appearance and about 5ft 9ins tall, exposed himself at around 12.40am on Wednesday, March 23, whilst peering into the home of a woman. CCTV footage shows he left in a grey car, parked near the Kensington Arms, which had a door sticker similar to those used by Uber.

It came after police received a report from a woman who had seen a man of similar appearance looking in at her window on Tuesday, January 25. Police say the man is stocky with short black hair, and on the second occasion was seen to be wearing a navy blue padded body warmer.

Following the reports police say they contacted local schools, "being aware that some children use private hire vehicles to travel to and from school." It prompted a 'safeguarding alert' from Redland Green School, which said the 'taxi driver' has also approached individuals "with the intention of transporting them in his vehicle."

According to Bristol World, the message to parents reads: “Several reports have been received regarding a male observing females in the Kensington Road area of Bristol and subsequently arousing himself. It is reported that this individual is an Uber driver and has also approached individuals with the intention of transporting them in his vehicle.”

It continued: “Please be assured that we take all safeguarding issues extremely seriously and would like to take this opportunity to remind all students and parents to be vigilant and to report any suspicious behaviour to the police and the school.”

Police say they made house-to-house enquiries and offered support to the woman whose house it was. They are urging anyone who witnesses suspicious behaviour to call them straight away.

"If you witness anyone behaving suspiciously around homes in your neighbourhood, please call us straight away," they said. "If a crime's underway or the person is still in the area, ring 999, otherwise call 101.If you have any information about these incidents, please ring 101 and give the reference 5222068697. Alternatively ring the independent charity Crimestoppers 100 per cent anonymously on 0800 555 111."
