School put into lockdown as intruders allegedly threaten staff

Police are investigating after staff were allegedly threatened by three intruders at a Welsh high school. Officers were called to Abertillery Learning Community early on Monday morning after the three entered the school without permission.

Gwent Police said the three teenage boys reportedly made threats to members of staff and set off the school's fire alarm. Officers were called to the school at around 8.45am on Monday (July 3).

A statement from the force said that two 15-year-old boys were later arrested on suspicion of affray and criminal damage. It added: "They remain in police custody at this time. No injuries were reported, and further arrest enquiries are ongoing."

A statement that was sent reassured parents that the pupils were "safe" and "not in any danger".

It added that three intruders had gained access to the school and the police had been called.

The message added: "School lockdown procedures were followed with students remaining safe in locked classrooms throughout the event. As is usual following such an incident, school procedures will be evaluated to make them even safer."
