School commences legal action to 'reclaim site' after travellers pitch up

Travellers have pitched up at a recreation ground near a school in Nottinghamshire. The caravans have been spotted at Long Lane Recreation Ground in Long Lane, Attenborough.

Local residents first saw the caravans arrive on Wednesday night, August 3 and pictures taken on Thursday [August 4] show them still on-site. The park backs onto the back of Chilwell School and legal action has now been undertaken by the school to "reclaim the site".

A spokesperson for Broxtowe Borough Council said: "We are aware of an unauthorised encampment at the back of Chilwell School, the representatives of the school have confirmed legal action has commenced to reclaim the site.

"If you witness any criminal activity, please report this to the Police on 101 or if it is an emergency 999."

Last month, a group of caravans left a park in Beeston after being served a notice by the local council. The travellers were spotted leaving Dovecote Lane Recreation Ground in Beeston on Sunday evening, July 24 before being served a legal notice by Broxtowe Borough Council.

Days later, in Sutton-in-Ashfield, travellers moved into Lammas Leisure Centre car park, with the council also serving them a direction to leave notice.
