A school bus carrying students caught fire on Wednesday afternoon along New Jersey’s Garden State Parkway, according to fire officials. The incident occurred at mile marker 20.8 southbound in Cape May County, prompting a swift response from firefighters around 2:30 p.m.
Upon arrival, the Seaville Fire and Rescue Company found the bus engulfed in flames, with all 10 students and the bus driver having safely evacuated before emergency services arrived. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
Firefighters from Seaville Fire and Rescue Company, along with crews from the Marmora Volunteer Fire Company, worked tirelessly for approximately two hours to extinguish the blaze, successfully preventing any further damage or harm.
According to a student who was on board the bus, the incident was preceded by the smell of smoke and a loud bang, prompting the swift evacuation of the vehicle. The child's father, Kevin Capone, expressed the fear and uncertainty that parents face in such situations, describing it as 'every parent's worst nightmare.'
As of now, the cause of the fire remains unclear, leaving authorities to investigate further to determine what led to the dangerous incident on the Garden State Parkway. The quick response and actions of the students, bus driver, and emergency responders helped ensure that everyone involved remained safe and unharmed.
