Scathing TripAdvisor reviews left for KFC branded 'worst in the UK'

A KFC has been branded the worst in the UK with a lengthy list of scathing reviews from customers.

Fast food fans scored the Carmarthen branch an embarrassing 2.0 out of 5 based on 195 reviews complaining of poor service, filthy tables, piles of rubbish and over cooked food.

The restaurant and drive-thru in Wales has so far racked up 31 "poor" reviews and another 118 "terrible" ones, reports Wales Online.

But a small group of 17 customers had a completely different experience, giving the KFC an "excellent" rating.

In comparison, its nearby neighbour in Pensarn has 22 "excellent" reviews and 20 "terrible" with an overall rating of 3.5 out of 5.

The bad reviews for the more unpopular KFC branch began pouring in a decade ago, just weeks after it opened in 2012.

Some are particularly shocking while others show the funny side of its "disappointing" performance.

One man from Llanelli branded the Carmarthen branch the “worst KFC in the UK".

He added: "The place is still filthy, tables never wiped or cleaned, piles of rubbish everywhere and food all over the floors.

"Toilets are disgusting. How this place has not been picked up by hygiene standards is beyond me.

"As always a huge line of people 12 deep and one person serving, all other tills closed as usual. If there was an award for the worst KFC in the UK, this would win hands down.”

One hungry dad went so far as to compare the KFC to "a scene from the Walking Dead with greased up flesh eating walkers dragging their limbs across the filthy floor."

Commenting in 2017, he told of wet and greasy chicken, hard burger buns and filthy toilet floors which made McDonald's look like "a five-star restaurant."

Another customer said the conversation among drive-thru staff was "appalling" while another in 2013 complained about watery gravy that tasted like dishwater.

Further complaints included long waiting times for the supposed fast food, staff arguing among themselves and missing food.

One customer in 2015 referred to two "very rude and intimidating" staff members with a "bolshy" attitude that she likened to extras on the Jeremy Kyle show.

Problems seem to have continued in more recent years with one diner describing "the most bizarre staff interaction they've ever experienced" in 2019.

After arriving home from the KFC drive-thru and discovering £12 of her food was missing, she claimed she was told by staff that they were "not a taxi service" and to "f*** off."

A mum from the area recalled waiting 15 minutes for food during which time she witnessed "chaotic" scenes with no organisation and "a clear bust up" between kitchen staff.

Last summer, one man said that an astonishing 90% of his order was missing from the KFC branch and what they did have was cold and messy.

A woman in January claimed she almost slipped due to the state of the restaurant floor but managed to grab onto a chair while staff just laughed.

While another customer in February told of filthy toilets, overflowing bins and debris all over the floor.

Despite the large number of negative reviews on TripAdvisor, the restaurant boasts a hygiene rating of five according to the Food Standards Agency website

There were some positive comments about the KFC including a five star review posted in May 2021.

The reviewer said: "The experience was great. Staff was so nice and friendly and up for a laugh. Never had a bad experience with this fast food chain."

Another customer in 2020 wrote: "Love a KFC and this one did not disappoint, friendly and helpful staff and yummy food served fast."

Customers' concerns about the standard of the food, service and cleanliness at the branch were put to KFC.

The fast food giant said it is working hard to improve the situation.

A KFC spokesperson said: "The Colonel is passionate about his food always being finger lickin’ good, so we’re sorry to see these reviews.

"The team are working hard to improve Pensarn restaurant’s ratings and we’d like to encourage our fans to get in touch when things don’t go to plan so we can try and make things right as quickly as possible."
