Scared of the Dark sees Paul Gascoigne make bizarre lewd confession about Margaret Thatcher on new TV show

Paul Gascoigne stunned his fellow cast members of new Channel 4 show Scared of the Dark by making a cruse and shocking confession about when he met former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher at Downing Street. The new show made its debut on Sunday night.

With Danny Dyer as host, Gazza and co-stars - including Scarlett Moffatt and Max George - entered a completely pitch-black reality space called The Bunker for eight days. Over five successive nights the show will follow the celebrities as they get to grips with living in the dark, ChronicleLive reports.

To prove their mettle, each of them will take on a series of challenges designed to test either their primal fear of total darkness or their ability to function in the pitch black. Those that fail at their challenges will have to take on tough tasks to save their place on the show.

Ahead of the first episode airing, details of a conversation County Durham-born Gazza had with his fellow cast members about late former Prime Minister Thatcher were leaked. He was at the height of his footballing fame, when she was coming to the end of her term in office and he met her at an event in Downing Street.

Recalling what happened, Gazza explained: "Do you want a sexy story? I may get myself in trouble here. When I went to 10 Downing Street, I put my arm round Maggie Thatcher," before adding that he was so aroused by his meeting with the then PM that he had to go to the toilet and 'whack one out'.

His fellow contestants looked stunned as the former footballer, 55, made the dirty confession, although their shock soon turned to laughter. When asked why he had done it, Gascoigne responded: "I just had to."

A shocked Chris Eubank responded by saying: "It's so unfortunate, it's probably true.

"What you've done there, Paul, is pub talk, man. That's not for you. But then, maybe I'm killing the party so do what you want."

Eubankl later went into a private room and told producer's he thought the story was 'muck': "I don't know Gazza. And I don't want to know Gazza. Because that's drinking. That's all that muck.

"He's brazen. He'll drink you underneath the table. He is a legend that is not legendary. What's legendary is Paul. Paul and what he did. "He was a superstar in football. I want to know Paul. He's a beautiful man."
