Scared kids watch on as man "covered in blood" runs to barbers

Kids watched on in horror as a man "covered in blood" ran over a main road to get help from a barbers shop.

Merseyside Police were called to Hoylake Road in Moreton just after 6.23pm on Thursday, June 15, following reports of a serious assault. Once officers arrived at the scene they found a 44-year-old man with a serious injury to his hand and arm.

He was taken to hospital for his injuries and investigations into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing.

One woman who works at a nearby salon said she saw the man appear from an alleyway next to Heron Foods on Hoylake Road and he was “covered in blood”.

She told The ECHO: “He [the victim] ran out of the alleyway and then he just tried to flag down Coastguard, it was scary, there was blood everywhere.

“I was with my sister-in-law and her car was parked behind Heron so as we walked through there was just blood everywhere.

“He [the victim] looked at me and I wasn’t sure if he was going to run out. He just looked pure shocked in his eyes and ran into the barbers.

“He was holding his left arm where he was stabbed and was with his kids. His kids just watched all of that play out in front of them.

“There was also a really young kid getting their hair done in the barbers.”

The woman said it was a shame to see an incident in Moreton and added that crime in the area is “out of control”.

A cordon was out in place by police between the Upton Road roundabout and Barnston Lane. You could see a large knife lying in the middle of the road, which was picked up by a forensics officer.

A number of evidence markers were placed down where blood trailed across the road and pavement from Heron Foods to the Turkish barbers. There was also blood found on the back of a parked vehicle on Barnston Lane.

Detective Chief Inspector Cat Walsh, said: "The investigation is very much in its early stages and we are still trying to piece together exactly what has happened. The victim has been taken to hospital where he is being treated for his injuries and this was a nasty attack.

"If you have captured the incident on dashcam or your mobile phone please contact us, as that footage could be crucial in helping us to find the offender and put him before the courts.

"I am aware that the incident has caused some disruption within the local community and I would like to thank members of the public for their understanding and patience whilst the crime scene is examined."
