Scared dog with matted fur and overgrown claws finally finds forever home

A six-year-old dog found injured and afraid has made a full recovery and finally found a place to call home.

Chihuahua Missy was found in Grimsby, North East Lincolnshire, with painful injuries to her eye, lacerations to her ears, a fractured rib, matted fur and overgrown claws.

She was taken to the Blue Cross animal hospital on Nelson Street where vets thought she may have been hit by a car.

Unfortunately, her left eye was prolapsed and very painful so needed to be removed. She was cared for at the hospital for several days until she had fully recovered.

Although microchipped and registered with an owner in Hull, they did not respond to Blue Cross so Missy was taken to the Blue Cross Animal Rehoming Centre in Thirsk to start the journey of finding a loving new home.

She was placed into foster care with Jenny Day, Blue Cross volunteer co-ordinator and animal welfare assistant and her chihuahuas Freddi and Lily and foster kitten Raven.

Jenny said: "It was a pleasure to have Missy in my care while we searched for the perfect new home after her ordeal.

"She enjoyed having the company of my two dogs and her foster kitten playmate. We are delighted that she is in safe hands now in a loving home of her own."

This year marks the 125th anniversary of Blue Cross, originally ‘Our Dumb Friends League’.

The charity formed to help vulnerable pets and their owners and we continue this work today across our rehoming, clinical, animal behaviour, pet bereavement support and educational work.

A spokesperson added: "We are striving to be able to help even more pets in the future live healthy lives in happy homes.

"Blue Cross relies on the support and donations of pet lovers to continue our vital work, to find out more and make a donation visit www.bluecross.org.uk/125-years-of-blue-cross."
