Scandinavian retail chain to open first ever Scots store in Glasgow's St Enoch centre

Glasgow is set to become home to a major Scandinavian homeware brand's first ever Scottish store later this year - and it is perfectly in time for Christmas.

Søstrene Grene is set to open the doors to its first Scottish store for shoppers in the city's thriving St Enoch Centre on Friday, December 2, 2022. The Danish brand, which was founded in 1973, will be the latest store to open in the shopping centre since it announced ambitious expansion plans for 2022, which has included a brand new axe-throwing bar.

Encouraging shoppers to bring a moment of 'hygge' - meaning in comfort in Danish - the store will sell cosy interiors, hobby items, small furniture and kitchen items at affordable prices.

Alongside a brand new Christmas collection, 'The Magic of Christmas', the 350m2 store will set the scene for the retail chain’s new store concept called 'Retail for the Senses', as it invites shoppers on a journey throughout the store.

The new store has also evolved the Danish lifestyle brand's labyrinth design to make the flow more organic for customers.

CEO and co-owner of Søstrene Grene, Mikkel Grene said: "“We are very happy to be opening a store in Glasgow. We have been wanting to enter the Scottish market for a while, and this is the first new market we are entering since 2019. So, for us, this opening also solidifies the future expansion of Søstrene Grene."

The idea of ‘the city’ has also served as an inspiration and large squares which showcase the product categories have been incorporated into the store design to allow customers to take a break without having the feeling of blocking the flow of the labyrinth.

“We wish to contribute with a completely new shopping experience in the St. Enoch Centre. We cannot wait to invite our Scottish customers inside for a moment of ‘hygge’ in St. Enoch Centre this coming Christmas season.,” says Mikkel Grene.

The franchise concept retail chain has worked to bring beauty and joy to everyday lives through ever-changing aesthetic design made to create and support moments of ‘hygge’. It currently has a presence in England and Northern Ireland, where it is run by Joint Venture partners Norma Jacob and Richard Power.

Jacob said: "We always strive to offer our customers beautiful experiences when they visit a Søstrene Grene store, and we are delighted to be able to offer this to new Scottish and existing customers as well. On the opening day, we are looking forward to seeing many happy faces and introducing St. Enoch shoppers to Søstrene Grene’s wonderful world."

While Power added: "With this location right in the heart of Glasgow and an opening close to Christmas, our hopes are high, and we cannot wait to open."
