Scammers have tried to con the chair of the ScamwiseNI partnership in a fake insurance policy call.
PSNI Superintendent Gerard Pollock said he took the call but recognised early on that something wasn't right.
"The caller told me they were ringing from a life insurance company I did not recognise, about my life insurance policy," he said.

"When I said no, the caller asked 'you don't have a life insurance policy?', before hanging up the call.
"This caller faked a local telephone number to make the scam more convincing which is a common trick of criminals.”
He urged members of the public to be vigilant for unexpected calls which asked the to disclose personal or financial information.
The methods being used by fraudsters to illegally access people's money was becoming ever more sophisticated, he added.

Text message – Report suspicious text messages for free to 7726. Your provider can investigate the text and take action if found to be fraudulent.
