SC grants interim bail to Kejriwal till June 1

The Supreme Court has reportedly granted interim bail until June 1 to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who had challenged his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in the Delhi Excise Policy case.

A detailed order is likely to be uploaded by the evening.

Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 and is presently lodged at Tihar jail.

The case stems from a CBI FIR which alleged that the Delhi excise policy of 2021-22 was manipulated to facilitate monopolisation and cartelisation of wholesale and retail liquor trade in Delhi. The ED has accused Kejriwal of being part of a conspiracy to create loopholes in the now scrapped policy, allegedly to benefit certain sellers.

Kejriwal, former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, AAP MP Sanjay Singh and BRS leader K Kavitha, were among those arrested. Singh is out on bail, but Sisodia and Kavitha continue to remain in jail.

In the previous hearing, the court had suggested it would consider granting relief to Kejriwal in view of the Lok Sabha poll campaign.

Project Electoral Bond also reported at length on how a Hyderabad firm, which donated electoral bonds to the BJP, has a curious link to the case in which Kejriwal is accused. Click here for the story.
