'Says a lot' - Jurgen Klopp told one condition must be met to stop player leaving Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp has been told that Caoimhin Kelleher is unlikely to request a move away from Liverpool this summer.

The Reds goalkeeper has been a key player this season, despite serving as deputy to Alisson Becker. The Republic of Ireland international has made just eight appearances this term, but featured in all but two of Liverpool’s matches on their run to winning the Carabao Cup.

In that final at Wembley Stadium, Kelleher scored the decisive spot-kick in the penalty shootout against Chelsea to help the club win the trophy. The 23-year-old also had two outings to his name in the Premier League.

Kelleher’s form has led to several suggestions that he could be on the move away from Liverpool this summer in search of more regular game time. However, former top flight stopper Paul Robinson does not agree.

Robinson has argued that Kelleher is getting enough minutes to not warrant a desire to move away from Anfield. But he has warned that one condition must be met in order for this to remain the case.

“He has got a fair bit of game time this season. The fact Klopp played him in the cup final says a lot,” Robinson told Football Insider .

“His international career has not been hampered by the fact he’s not the number one at Liverpool. If he was missing three-quarters of the season and not getting a chance at international level, that would be an issue.

“As long as he is playing a certain percentage of the games and is his country’s number one I think he’ll be happy to stay.

“There will come a point where he will want to play every week though. He is not going to be one of these guys who sits on the bench for his whole career.

“How much patience does he have? I suspect he is very happy at the moment but there will come a time.”
