Amid the current cost of living crisis, we're hoping to save every penny where we can, especially as the colder nights creep in and the prices of our energy bills begin to soar. It's safe to say that the temptation to put on the heating is quickly overpowered by the idea of a hole being burned away in our pockets. However, it's important for us to stay warm.
As such a savvy TikToker, however, has shared what they claim is an essential money-saving tip for the winter months. Posting to popular video-streaming service TikTok, a user named Hannah, who posts under @woman.of.gold, broke down the costs of using an electric blanket as she claimed she's "rarely" put the heating on since buying one.
In the video itself, Hannah explained: "Electric blanket season is here. Did you know that keeping it on for four hours per day only costs you less than 10p?
"That's 70p per week and £3 per month.
She exclaimed: "It's literally soooo much cheaper to run than having the heating on in your bedroom and it actually keeps you properly warm and cosy.
"Heating a whole room is normally not enough to stay warm anyway, but this will keep your body warm guaranteed."
However, Hannah made sure to add a disclaimer, warning "As with MANY things, everything can be a fire hazard. I don't sleep with my blanket on, so I have full control over it and I don't leave the house with it on either.
Captioning the post, which has exceeded a whopping 490,000 views since going live, she wrote: "This is the best money-saving tip during winter ever!
"I rarely put the heating on in my bedroom because its USELESS and doesn’t warm up the room properly anyway, literally a waste of my hard earned money!
"So instead, I use my electric blanket and have been for years!! There is no better feeling than coming out the shower at night and getting into a warm bed," she gushed.
"I never sleep with it on, but it's safe to do so.
"This calculation is based on the new energy price guarantee 'average' at 34p per kWh and four hours usage. This specific blanket uses 70watt (I use it approx four hours at night before bed then I turn it off when I'm about to sleep).
"10/10 would recommend for anyone looking to save money whilst staying warm this winter," she added.
Heated blankets can be purchased from a number of stores with prices starting from £22 in shops like Dunelm and Asda.
Taking to the comments, fellow TikTokers gushed over the efficient find as they praised the life-changing product.
One person said: "Literally can't live without a heated blanket!!! The best thing."
"I got one six years ago and never been a night without it," a second agreed.
Another penned: "One of the best purchases ever."
