Savvy mum transforms 'awful' council house garden into paradise on budget

A savvy mum has transformed her council house garden into a dream paradise with B&M bargains.

Sharon, from Wales, has shared her before and after pictures on social media, explaining how she managed to completely change her garden on a budget.

Having lived in her council house for 17 years, Sharon, who goes by abitofme123 on TikTok, turned her attention to her garden after completely renovating her house.

In a video, she said: "The council gave us a garden with bumps and holes. We dug the garden up about four years ago and made it glow last year."

The mum-of-four removed the concrete walkway with metal handrail before levelling out the ground using a mini digger.

Now, her garden is a relaxing space with outdoor sofas, an egg-shaped hanging chair and lemon trees.

Despite all her hard work to update her home, Sharon has been met with some negative comments from people who have suggested that if she can afford to redecorate, she should buy her own home.

And although some are impressed at her makeover skills, others say she should buy her own home if she has enough money to do so.

"If you can afford to do all that, do you really need a council house? There are people living in poor conditions waiting for one of these homes," one TikTok user suggested.

The mum followed this by making another video showing off her pristine home, as she captioned it: "Why would I give up everything I've worked for?"

Another TikTok user asked: "I think what they are saying is how did you get a council house if you have all this money to decorate it?"

The mum replied to them: "Yes I work, they're not given to people on low incomes anyone can apply. I had this 17 years ago when I was 18 with a baby and nowhere to live.

"Everything was done on a budget, sale items, discounts and over the space of the last three years. I understand people are waiting for council homes but we love ours, I can't give it up."

She went on to explain that she had been offered the right to buy a few years ago, but hadn't been able to afford it, so had secured lifetime tenancy instead.

"All the council owns is the bricks and mortar everything else is my home. I've spent the last eight years rebuilding my life and my home," she wrote.
