Manchester United supporters are ecstatic after learning Sir Jim Ratcliffe could be set to bid to buy the club. News that the Glazer family are prepared to exit Old Trafford has sent shockwaves throughout the fanbase - and put potential investors on high alert.
Earlier this year, Ratcliffe - a lifelong Red Devil - expressed interest in ending the Glazer’s controversial 17-year reign. The American investors' leveraged buyout in 2005 was met with instant disdain from United supporters - who have called for new owners practically ever since.
Vitriol towards the clubs' ownership has triggered mass protests and even a phoenix club emerging, with FC United of Manchester playing in the Northern Premier League. In August, Ratcliffe - worth an estimated £10billion - made public his desire to buy the club.

"If the club is for sale, Jim is definitely a potential buyer," his spokesperson told The Times. "If something like this was possible, we would be interested in talking with a view to long-term ownership.
"This is not about the money that has been spent or not spent. Jim is looking at what can be done now and, knowing how important the club is to the city, it feels like the time is right for a reset."
News broke this week about the possibility of the Glazers finally being ready to cash in. The Telegraph is now reporting that Ratcliffe will bid to become the next United owner.
Supporters immediately took to social media to express their delight. One fan referred to the billionaire as “the saviour” after 17 years of struggle.
