'Save them for next week' - Gareth Ainsworth outlines Wycombe hope for Bolton Wanderers clash

Gareth Ainsworth hopes his Wycombe Wanderers side haved saved their cutting edge in front of goal for the upcoming clash against Bolton following their opening day win over Burton Albion.

The Whites host the Chairboys in what will be Bolton's first home game of the season on Saturday, August 6. Ian Evatt's side picked up their first point of the campaign on the road with a 1-1 draw versus Ipswich Town on Saturday.

Ainsworth's side meanwhile are the early League One leaders following a 3-0 victory over Burton Albion at Adams Park. Goals from David Wheeler, Anis Mehmeti and Josh Scowen ensured victory for the Chairboys.

Ainsworth's side did the double over Wanderers last season. A 1-0 win at Adams Park was followed up with a 2-0 triumph at the University of Bolton Stadium.

Wycombe's goals against the Brewers all came in the first half. Though he was pleased with the side his start have made in a competitive division, Ainsworth hopes not adding further to the scoreline after the break at Adams Park means they are saving goals up for when they take on the Whites.

Speaking to the club website, Ainsworth said: "It’s a good start, but that’s all it is. There’s no getting carried away.

"We know what it takes to achieve in this league and we’re going to have to be on it week in, week out and hopefully we can get the right results.

“They were brilliant and I think it’s a real nice marker and a barometer of yes, we’re fit, yes, we understand the tactics. But we’re going to have to do that week in week out, there's some big, big sides in this league and some crazy results today.

"We've have got the depth that I wanted. I think the B team and the development team has been fruitful for us, but it’s now about keeping everyone fit and keeping everyone in the zone. Training this week has been really good, the boys have been really on it.

“I just wish we could have kept going in that second half and added a few more, but hopefully we’ll save them for next week.”
