Save £300 a year on your energy bill with this quick boiling water hack

News of rising energy bills has put mounting pressure on Brits who are struggling to navigate an already painful cost of living crisis.

With the energy price cap set to rise by 80 per cent, people are understandably worried about upcoming bills and if they will be able to pay them.

As a result, households are looking for anything that can help to cut costs now, before the price cap increase comes into force on October 1.

Luckily, there are ways you can make noticeable savings when using every day kitchen appliances, without having to give them up entirely.

One TikToker has shared how you can save £300 by changing how you use your kettle. In a video shared to the social media app. User @scott8bits explained: "Fill your kettle and switch it on.

"Each time you switch in on it costs one unit of energy, which is about 18p. After you fill it up, pour the rest into a thermos."

By storing your boiled water in a thermos flask, you can return for hot refills throughout the day without having to re-boil the kettle.

The video further explained that putting on the kettle on average six times costs about £1 a day. Therefore, cutting that cost every day will save you near £365 for one year.

A thermos, or a vacuum flask, is designed to keep liquids either hot or cold for long periods of time and cost from as little as £7 in Tesco.

The price cap increase has highlighted that even average usage of household appliances can add up to high bills.

In fact, some are considered to be "energy draining", and could make your bills sky rocket this winter.
