A wood fired sauna which is fuelled by s 240 kg of volcanic rock has been built on a beach in Wales. The cosy nook was founded by three friends who were craving access to a sauna that embraced the beautiful surroundings in their local area.
As a result they spent a year building Sawna Bach which will open on Porth Tyn Tywyn in Anglesey on Saturday, March 11. North Wales Live reported that you can book private sessions (for up to 8 people) or individual spots in communal sessions shared with other members of the public for either 50 or 80 minutes on the beach pod.
Saunas are very popular in parts of Europe where many homes will come equipped with their own one. Now, the founders say they hope the sauna will encourage more people to embrace "sauna culture".

“Sauna bathing has such amazing health benefits for the whole body. It can reduce headaches, ease pain in rheumatic diseases, and even reduce susceptibility to flu”, says director Jen Holloway.
“We would love our sauna to become an integral part of the local community and to inspire its own unique Welsh sauna culture”, says Caroline Coch, director, originally from Germany where saunas are very common. Unlike in Germany however, Sawna Bach will ask bathers to cover up during the sauna sessions.
The businesses claims that the sauna is built to the highest specifications, using locally-sourced wood and supplies wherever possible, the company says. It also includes a little reception area and changing room to shelter from the sometimes harsh conditions.
“The heart of the sauna is our IKI stove that was handcrafted in Finland. It holds 240 kg of volcanic rock, which keeps the room hot for the long sauna days ahead”, says Alex Zalewski, director, who spent endless hours building the sauna.
The sauna will be open Thursdays to Sundays from 9am until 9pm from 11th March 2023. Customers can book online via the website.
