Saudi-hosted peace talks fall short of ceasefire in Sudan

Negotiations on the Sudanese conflict between the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudanese army have wrapped up in Jeddah. The talks were unable to reach a ceasefire, although the two warring parties committed to facilitating humanitarian aid.

In Niger, the M62 – a group of civil organisations opposing the French military presence – is demanding the cancellation of French group Orano's mining permit for a uranium extraction project in northern Niger. This demand mirrors local concerns. Despite Orano's decades of uranium mining in the Agadez region, the lives of local residents have not significantly improved. Orano's operations in Niger contribute to 10 to 15 percent of France's electricity production.

Every year, women in science are rewarded by UNESCO and the L'Oréal foundation. For this edition, 30 young African researchers have been selected. Among them is Mary Amoako from Ghana. Her specialty is nutrition and dietetics. She's researching how diets and nutrition influence the possibility of babies developing clefts, a facial malformation. She joined us on the programme to tell us more.
