Saudi Arabia Sends Aid for People Affected by Marib Torrential Rains, Floods

The inauguration of the KSRelief's Orphans Sponsorship Project in Marib (Saba)

King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSRelief) launched a project in Yemen to sponsor orphans and distribute aid to families affected by the torrential rains and floods in Marib.

The orphans' sponsorship project aims to empower families economically and has been implemented through the Yemeni Foundation for Development and Humanitarian Action for over a year in the governorates of Marib, Aden, and Lahj, according to Yemeni official sources.

The project includes 177 orphans in Marib who will be sponsored in terms of education and living expenses.

In total, the project sponsors 536 orphans in the three governorates. It will also train 50 families who support orphans, offer to back low-income-generating projects, and provide the requirements for their establishment.

The Undersecretary of Marib Governorate, Mohammad al-Mawadi, praised the humanitarian support of KSRelief in Yemen in general and Marib in particular.

Mawadi lauded the Center's rapid response to emergency humanitarian appeals launched by the local authority, compared to the slow response of the rest of the humanitarian partners.

Saba news agency reported that the official noted the importance of this move to the people in Marib in light of the dire living conditions, which get worse every day.

Meanwhile, the KSRelief Center distributed over 87 tons of food baskets to those affected by the torrential rains in al-Wadi and al-Madina districts in Marib, benefiting 7,326 individuals.

In a statement, the Center explained that the distribution process is part of the project to support food security in 2022 and aims to distribute more than 192,000 food baskets weighing more than 20,000 tons to needy and affected families in 15 Yemeni governorates.
