Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov announced on Monday that Saudi Arabia has been selected as the venue for the upcoming Ukraine peace talks due to its suitability for both Russia and the United States. The decision was reportedly suggested by US President Donald Trump to Russian President Vladimir Putin during a recent phone call.
The choice of holding the peace talks in the Middle East, rather than in Europe where the conflict in Ukraine has been ongoing for almost three years, has raised concerns in various European capitals. There is a growing apprehension that decisions regarding the future security of the continent may be made with limited European involvement.
The talks scheduled to take place in Riyadh on Tuesday will not only focus on US-Russia relations but will also address the planning for potential negotiations concerning the Ukrainian conflict. Additionally, efforts will be made to arrange a meeting between Presidents Trump and Putin.
