Speaker of the Saudi Shura Council Sheikh Dr. Abdullah Al Al-Sheikh said on Wednesday the Kingdom “calls on Iran, as a neighbor, with whom our people share religious and cultural ties, to cooperate with regional countries.”
The cooperation must take place through “respecting international principles and refraining from meddling in the affairs of other countries,” he added, while calling on Tehran to also cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency and its commitments towards it.
Al Al-Sheikh made the remarks while heading Saudi Arabia’s delegation at the 16th meeting of Heads of Shura, Representatives, National Assembly, and Parliament Councils in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states hosted by Oman.
Moreover, he stressed that Saudi Arabia opposes Iran’s occupation of the United Arab Emirates’ islands of Greater and Lesse Tunb and Abou Moussa.
He urged Iran to comply with the UAE’s efforts to resolve the case through direct negotiations or by turning to the International Criminal Court.
Saudi Arabia, under the leadership of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, is keen on the prosperity of the region, continued Al Al-Sheikh.
This demands that conflicts in the region be resolved, starting with the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, he added.
He reiterated the Kingdom’s firm stance on the Palestinian people’s full right to establish an independent state according to the 1967 borders and with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The future of the region demands the adoption of a vision that prioritizes security, stability and prosperity. This in turn should be based on mutual respect between regional countries and strengthening cultural and social ties and confronting security and political challenges, he went on to say.
