The Kingdom’s education is the best among Arab countries and ranked 30th globally, according to the British ‘Nature Index’ that assesses countries, universities, and public and private institutions’ performance and the quality of their scientific research each year.
The Kingdom’s ranking is based on the number of scientific journal articles published over the best 82 international scientific journals, as the number of entries from Saudi Arabia reached 448. Nature also included 26 Saudi universities on its list for this year. Only 16 universities made it in 2018.
This shift is a result of the direction that the Saudi leadership is taking the country in as it seeks to realize an ambitious vision for the future to enhance research and innovation and align them with the country’s needs and industries, with a focus on innovation in advanced technologies and entrepreneurship.
The Ministry of Education continues to heavily support research and innovation financially, sponsoring advanced research centers in universities and launching initiatives to speed up the completion of university research projects.
