Saturday's hour-by-hour forecast for every borough of Greater Manchester as snow hits region

Parts of Greater Manchester are waking up to a covering of snow this morning, with further flurries expected throughout the day. Weather warnings have been issued across large parts of England including Greater Manchester as the weekend gets off to a cold and icy start.

The Met Office said wintry showers throughout Saturday are likely in the north west of England. The forecast suggests it will stay dry overnight but temperatures are expected to turn very cold and frosty with mist and freezing fog forming in places.

A yellow warning for snow and ice covering Greater Manchester, parts of Wales and southern England is in place until 12pm on Sunday. Temperatures are forecast to stay between 0C and 2C in the region on Saturday with every borough expected to see some snowfall throughout the day.

Elsewhere in the UK, temperatures could fall as low as -10C in isolated areas on Saturday and Sunday. Met Office Chief Meteorologist, Steve Willington, said: “It is staying cold with daytime temperatures remaining only a few degrees above freezing in many places over the coming days and overnight temperatures dropping to -10°C or lower in isolated spots. Although below average, these temperatures are not that unusual for this time of year."

The Met Office said snowy conditions could lead to travel disruption this weekend, and there is a small chance some rural communities may get cut off along. There is also a possibility of power cuts and mobile phone coverage being affected.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) sent out a level three cold weather alert covering England until next Friday, December 16, having extended the alert from Monday. The UKHSA is advising people to look out for friends and family who are vulnerable in the cold and to ensure they have access to warm food and drinks, adding that people should maintain indoor temperatures of at least 18C.

Here's Saturday's hour-by-hour forecast from the Met Office for each borough of Greater Manchester.
