Saturday Night Takeaway fans upset after Ant McPartlin appeared to 'throw' his dogs

Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly introduced two new stars of the show on tonight's Saturday Night Takeaway - their pet doggies.

The popular TV duo were presenting tonight's show from their homes while social distancing from each other during the coronavirus pandemic.

Ant was joined on the couch by his two adorable maltipoos, a cross between a Maltese terrier and a poodle, and his chocolate labrador Hurley.

Over at Dec's house he cuddled his dachshund Rocky as the pair introduced a collection of the family entertainment show's 'best bits.'

Fans in lockdown were cheered up by the sight of the adorable pooches, but some were upset when they thought Ant appeared to 'throw' his pets off the couch while introducing a throwback sketch with sweary chef Gordon Ramsay.

Ant jokingly said to the dogs: "It's too late for us, save yourselves, go, go, go" as he removed them from the couch.

"You shouldn't have thrown the poor white ones like that," said one viewer on Twitter.

"So disappointed in you."

"Did you just throw them off the sofas?!!" asked another.

"Didn’t like the throwing of the dogs really," another said.

"I know no harm was caused but a pointless act."

And another said: "He just threw them and pushed them."

"It was for a joke, I’m sure someone was behind the camera to catch them, I know he wouldn’t ever hurt them!" explained another fan.

And another said: "I’m sure someone was behind the camera to catch them, he wouldn’t ever hurt his dogs he loves them!"

"I can assure you Ant loves all three of his dogs and treats them with love and spoils them," tweeted another.

Viewers were delighted to see the dogs.

"Tonight's pawfectly behaved guests are welcome back any time! 10/10 for cuteness," tweeted Saturday Night Takeaway.

"Ant and Dec are national treasures, we should protect them at all costs," commented another fan.

"Ant and Dec plus doggos!! it’s the TV programming we NEED," said another.

Earlier this year Dec thanked TV Supervet Noel Fitzpatrick for coming to the rescue of Rocky after a nasty run-in with a grumpy fox in the garden.

Fans praised the duo for making sure the show goes on in such trying times.

"I’m watching Ant and Dec somehow still have impeccable chemistry," cheered one.
