Our tipster is back with three more picks on Saturday, and cannot see Palace Boy losing.
Here are today’s horse racing tips...
Palace Boy (5.05pm, Southwell @ 11/4)
This seven-year-old gelding was tipped by this column on January 19 and despite his 10lb handicap increase he still came in with two lengths to spare ahead of Artisan Dancer, who has won twice since.
Palace Boy has been put up in the handicap by a further 6lbs as a result of that win but despite going up by over a stone in total, this horse should still remain dominant on the flat. The increase of an extra two furlongs for this two-mile race should not be a concern for a horse of this stamina.
A possible contender for each-way backers is Animato, the five-year-old gelding is being put back up to two miles after some shorter efforts and remains off a relatively low handicap mark which could make him potentially dangerous.
Star Studied (5.35pm, Southwell @ 7/2)
This is the debut for this three-year-old colt out of Group 1 winner Study Of Man, who himself was sired by Deep Impact, who produced many great horses both in the UK and Japan. The dam Quintada was a winner over 1m as a two-year-old and 1 1/2m as a three-year-old.
As with most maiden races, you can expect a bit more jostling for position at the start and a degree of youthful exuberance, so starting over the mile is likely to be the right choice. The most notable rival is Memories Maker, who came third at Newcastle over a similar distance, but the pedigree of Star Studied should be enough to bring home a debut win.
Eagle Day (6.35pm, Southwell @ 8/1)
This four-year-old gelding ran out of puff in his last race on February 9 at Wolverhampton. He was in the lead one furlong out and then faded in the last 100 yards to finish third, two lengths behind the winner, and half a length from second-place Wadacre Gomez, who went on to win his next race.
Racing today at 2f shorter distance should suit Eagle Day better and another positive is the addition of jockey Hollie Doyle, who scored a second place with him at Wolverhampton last October. Five-year-old gelding Cavalluccio should pose the main threat to the selection, but all signs point to Eagle Day grabbing his third career win.
