Sarina Wiegman said she was “incredibly proud” after the Lionesses took a huge step towards Euros glory.
England supersub Alessia Russo scored a wonder goal - a sensational back heel - as they booked their place in Sunday’s final at Wembley. The sell-out crowd at Bramall Lane celebrated wildly at the final whistle after a remarkable victory over the Olympic silver medalists.
England boss Wiegman said: “I think they have shown a couple of times they are very resilient. We didn’t start well, we had a hard time. We found a way. The players in the game found a way to get out of their pressure. I’m so incredibly proud of them.
“They're singing and the music is on. We've had a little celebration and then tomorrow we will recover and prepare for the final.
"We want to inspire the nation and make a difference. I think that's what we're doing. We want to make the country proud of us.”
They will now face either Germany or France but Wiegman added: “I don't care (final opponents). It doesn't matter who is in front us.”
Wiegman also praised Russo after her wonder goal as the super sub struck again. She said: "She (Russo) impacted the game again. Did very well. You must have so much courage to do a phenomenal thing like that.”
There were lengthy celebrations after the full time whistle as England ended their semi final curse, having lost their last three games at the same stage.
England scorer Beth Mead added: “I think when the full-time whistle went we didn’t know what to do. Unbelievable atmosphere. I enjoyed it so much.”
Former England keeper Karen Bardsley added: “I don't think people realise the impact this is going to have on the women's game in this country. In five or 10 years time this is going to become the norm.”
England men’s captain Harry Kane led the toast to Wiegman’s heroes as the Three Lions captain tweeted: “Yesss Lionesses! Bring on the final.” England star Raheem Sterling also tweeted his congratulations.
