Sarina Wiegman names England squad as host of Manchester United and Man City stars called up for Lionesses

England boss Sarina Wiegman has named her squad for the second edition of the Arnold Clark Cup this month with several Manchester City and Manchester United stars called up.

The Lionesses will take on Belgium, Italy and South Korea at three stadiums across the UK, including the CBS Arena in Coventry, Bristol City's Ashton Gate and Stadium MK in Milton Keynes. The tournament begins on February 16 and the two other matchdays are on February 19 and 22.

Manchester City midfielder Laura Coombs has been recalled to the squad for the first time since 2020, and she will join them alongside club teammates Chloe Kelly, Lauren Hemp, Sandy MacIver, Alex Greenwood and Ellie Roebuck. Five United stars are included with Mary Earps, Maya Le Tissier, Alessia Russo, Ella Toone and Katie Zelem all called up.

The players will report to St George's Park from Sunday evening and will remain at the base as preparations get underway. The team at the top of the standings after all three matchdays will claim the prize. England secured the trophy last year after they topped the table ahead of Canada, Spain and Germany.

On the squad selection, Wiegman said: “The first camp of the year is always important to set the right tone for what comes next, especially with such a big opportunity in the summer. We are only looking forward now and we have to stay humble and focused on working hard.

"We know the fans will be with us again and we can’t wait to see them at every stadium. We had a positive experience with the Arnold Clark Cup last time. We had three tough matches with different challenges in each one, and we were able to learn a lot from our performances and work on many details which we are aiming to do again.”
