Sarina Wiegman excited by selection headaches as England Women put in dominant display to down Belgium

Sarina Wiegman is ready for the prospect of selection headaches after her England Women side kicked off their Euro 2022 preparations with a comfortable win over Belgium.

The Lionesses put in a dominant performance to beat the Belgians 3-0 at Molineux in what was the first of their three warm-up games ahead of next month’s home Euros.

England controlled the first-half, but it was not until after the break that they eventually got on the scoresheet. Substitute Chloe Kelly set up the first goal and Rachel Daly scored the second to highlight the strength in depth within Wiegman’s squad.

Wiegman is still working out her best XI ahead of next month’s tournament opener against Austria and she is ready to have plenty of headaches.

“I think we have got 23 [players] and you can bring in all the players,” said Wiegman.

“So yes I hope I don’t get a headache, but in this case I want to get lots of headaches!

“The competition in this team is really high and we have opportunities for many players. Now we are just also looking for connections.

“We can use different qualities in different positions. We are getting a little closer [to our starting XI], but it is not all set. We still have two matches to go [until the Euros].

“So we will see what happens. Things can change really quickly too, that’s what we know too in top sport.”
